As a psychologist, I provide individual and group psychotherapy to adolescents and adults for a broad range of issues. I am trained as a generalist with an emphasis on severe and persistent mental illness. I purposefully sought out training working with more severe cases in order to gain the experience and confidence to be able to work with a wide range of issues. I have also been fortunate enough to work in a variety of different settings (acute inpatient units, state hospital, VA hospital, college psychology clinic, and community mental health centers).
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Georgia and a member of the Georgia Psychological Association.
Therapeutic Approach
I rely heavily on recovery-oriented and cognitive-behavioral approaches to instill hope, insight, and empowerment in order to build a collaborative therapeutic relationship. I believe a collaborative therapeutic relationship is essential to support and challenge my clients to explore and better understand themselves, others, and their purpose in life. By empowering my clients, I hope to assist them in finding their strengths and confidence to be more mindful and capable of handling future challenges that may arise.
My goal is to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable in my office to bring up pressing issues that you may not feel comfortable sharing with others. My style has been described as personable, calming, and non-judgmental. I listen intently while also offering gentle, direct, and honest feedback and guidance.
We will develop your treatment plan together in the first few sessions, but it will be similar to a “living” document, meaning that we can change it as new issues emerge or initial goals are no longer relevant to your current life. Once we develop an initial treatment plan, I will utilized evidence based therapy interventions such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy, (IPT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) depending on your unique needs and personality. Occasionally, I will assign therapy “homework,” which may be journaling your thoughts or behavioral experiments in order to put what you learn in therapy into practice in the real world.
It is important to remember that you are the expert on “you” and I am the expert on psychology – here to guide you to become the best version of yourself possible.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my training or therapeutic approach.
